*** The RCMP arrest four after seizing $8 million worth of heroin from an overseas container shipped from Pakistan to Halifax that was headed for Toronto:
[RCMP Supt. Ron] Allen said the drugs' ultimate destination was not known. He said Toronto has become a crossroads for drug shipments headed to other parts of Canada and the United States. The seized heroin likely originated in Afghanistan and was transported across the border to Pakistan, where it was readied for eventual shipment to North America, he said. "Since 2006, all heroin we have seized is from southwest Asia," he said. "According to the United Nations, Afghanistan is controlling about 92 per cent of the world's heroin market." Pakistan and India the main routes for heroin sent to Canada, Allen said.
*** Last Friday strip club owner Selim "Sam" Zherka was cited for disorderly conduct after an alleged confrontation with a cop at Mount Vernon City Hall:
Cops found Zherka carrying a Glock handgun and a knife, but he wasn't charged with weapons possession because the gun was licensed and the knife was too small to be considered dangerous, [Mount Vernon Police Chief Barbara] Duncan said.
Zherka last week filed a defamation suit against New York City alleging that it has falsely branded him as an Albanian mobster.
*** Clemens Fred Tinnemeyer, the grandfather of six-year-old Cole Puffinburger who was kidnapped last month in Las Vegas, has been charged with his girlfriend Terri Lynn Leavy in connection with their roles in a methamphetamine drug trafficking ring tied to the Mexican Mafia. Tinnemeyer allegedly stole millions from Mexican drug traffickers, and the abduction of his grandson -- later safely released -- was intended to send an ominous message. At the time of Tinnemeyer's arrest on October 17 law enforcement "discovered $3.5 million stuffed into five pieces of luggage, including two blue suitcases, two black foot lockers and a hand bag."
