The SPSS Drug Smuggling Ships
Colombian drug traffickers increasingly are using self-propelled semi-submersible (SPSS) water craft to ship their drug loads into the United States. The narrow boats, resembling submarines, are sixty-to-eighty feet long, and float only six inches above the water making them hard to detect. In fact, the drug cartels manufacture about eighty of the vessels each year, and only eight of them have been seized to date.
