*** After a three-year investigation the FBI arrested 10 individuals, some of whom allegedly are tied to the Gangster Disciples, in the northwest Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, IL on federal drug charges:
Along with the arrests, eight kilograms of cocaine conservatively worth $200,000 were recovered, along with $100,000 in cash from suspected drug sales and five late-model luxury vehicles.
The FBI is searching for more suspects allegedly tied to the drug ring.
*** Nine alleged members of the Crips in Denver, CO have been indicted on charges of buring down the Holly Shopping Center, a hangout for the Bloods, in retaliation for the murder of their leader.
The 773 gang is classified as a "hybrid gang," which means it operates locally without national ties. Investigators say the men have been connected to several murders, drug trafficking throughout the state and witnesses tampering.
Seven of its alleged members were indicted last February: four have been convicted, and charges still are pending against the remaining three.
*** Two suspected members of the Avenues gang in Los Angeles, CA have been charged with the murder of County Sheriff's Deputy Juan Abel Escalante outside his parents' home. The Avenues gang "has long feuded with the Cypress Park gang whose territory includes the northeast Los Angeles neighborhood where Escalante lived."
A federal judge also fined Fleming Daniels $10,000 for taking part in the violent group, which is a target of federal prosecutors in Detroit, Los Angeles, Orlando and St. Louis, as well as Atlanta. "This defendant --someone with multiple prior drug and firearms convictions -- typifies what was so alarming about the Black Mafia Family," U.S. Attorney David Nahmias said. He described the Black Mafia Family as a "criminal organization that combined drug dealing with gun violence." Daniels was the 16th defendant indicted in Atlanta on charges stemming from their role in the organization. Three others await trial, one remains at large and 11 already have pleaded guilty. Daniels' case was the first to reach trial, and a jury found that he alone distributed more than $1 million worth of cocaine.
Daniels also is waiting trial on a separate murder charge.
*** Police arrested twelve men in Brockton, MA belonging to the rival Green Street and Bloods gangs who allegedly collaborated to kill a police officer.
