The financial demands vary between $20,000 and $35,000, with the calls made to a broad range of businesses. But the dialect -- Mandarin Chinese -- is a constant. So are the threats that the callers, claiming to be connected with organized crime, will visit the victims' homes, hurt them and damage their businesses.
