A scandal is brewing in Montreal, Canada concerning the award of a St. Leonard borough contract in 2005 to Sogep, a subsidiary of Dessau Inc. At the time Frank Zampino was borough mayor of St. Leonard, and after he left office he joined Sogeo as its chief financial officer. Sogep rents "an office at 8817 Champ d’Eau St. in St. Léonard, a building owned by a company belonging to Agostino Cuntrera, an influential member of the Montreal Mafia" according to a story by Linda Gyulai for The Gazette:
Cuntrera was sentenced in 1978 to five years in prison for his role in the conspiracy to murder reputed Mafia don Paulo Violi, which allowed the Rizzuto family to take control of the Montreal Mafia from the Cotroni family. The Dessau subsidiary, Sogep, uses the space as a warehouse and offices for two local managers. One of the local Sogep managers is Domenico Pietrantonio, the brother-in-law of former St. Léonard borough mayor Frank Zampino. He’s responsible for parks.
Sogep insists it was unaware of the building's owner at the time it rented the premises.
