Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi, the leader of the Comanchero motorcycle club, has been charged with murder of Anthony Zervas during a brawl with the rival Hells Angels at the airport terminal in Sydney, Australia as reported by Angus Hohenboken for The Australian:
Anthony Zervas, 29, whose brother Peter is a senior Hells Angels member, died after being beaten with a bollard in a fight involving more than a dozen motorcycle gang members in the Qantas departure section of Sydney airport on March 22. * * * Police allege witnesses saw Mr Hawi holding a weapon and striking Zervas, who is believed to have suffered severe head injuries and fatal stab wounds as he lay on the floor in the domestic airport departure lounge. Mr Hawi, 29, was on bail after being charged in April with affray over the airport brawl, along with five other Comancheros.
Meanwhile, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione has announced that the newly-formed Criminal Organisations Unit shortly intends to petition the Supreme Court to rule that an unidentified motorcycle club "is involved in organised crime and . . . have it proscribed" according to an article by Kara Lawrence and Janet Fife-Yeomans for The Daily Telegraph:
If the ruling is made, the gang's assets can then be seized, members will be banned from associating with each other and can also be barred from certain occupations, including motor vehicle repairer. "We are looking to get one of these matters before the Supreme Court as soon as we can," Mr Scipione said. He said the investigation into the murder of Anthony Zervas during a brawl between Comanchero and Hells Angels members at Sydney airport in March was continuing and "many more" charges would be laid.
