The Associated Press reports that "Carmen 'The Cheeseman' DiNunzio, the reputed underboss of the New England mob, plans to plead guilty to attempting to bribe an undercover FBI agent posing as a state official to win a $6 million" highway construction project:
DiNunzio and two associates were charged last year after getting caught in an undercover FBI bribery sting. The men allegedly tried to pay off an FBI agent posing as a Massachusetts Highway Department inspector to secure a contract to provide 300,000 cubic yards of loam to the Big Dig highway project.
UPDATE: Shelley Murphy for The Boston Globe reports that in addition to the federal bribery charge, DiNunzio also will be pleading guilty to state extortion and gambling charges that were brought against him in December 2006, and pursuant to the plea agreement the Cheeseman will serve six years in prison.
