*** Two dozen suspected members and associates of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha or MS-13 gang have been indicted on federal racketeering charges in Los Angeles, CA, and ironically among the defendants is Alex Sanchez who is the executive director of the anti-gang Homies Unidos non-profit group:
The defendants, with monikers such as Creeper, Grinch, Pain and Tears, were involved in a variety of crimes, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, extortion and drug trafficking, over a 15-year period, the indictment alleges. Among the alleged crimes was a plot to kill a Los Angeles Police Department detective who specialized in investigating the gang, authorities said. Gang members had gone so far as choosing a handgun with which to kill Det. Frank Flores, authorities allege, but police thwarted the plot.
*** In San Diego, CA ICE agents arrested 65 illegal aliens with alleged ties to 19 different street gangs:
Several of those arrested had previous convictions on weapons and domestic violence charges, some will be prosecuted on new charges including drug offenses and violations of gang injunctions, and several others will face criminal prosecution on federal felony charges, including re-entry after deportation, officials said.
*** MS-13 has established itself in Albuquerque, NM, and the local cell allegedly is responsible for nine recent armed robberies including an attack of a Denny's restaurant during which they fatally shot an employee.
*** ICE agents arrested eight illegal Mexican nationals with alleged gang ties, including MS-13, in Salinas and Seaside, CA.
*** Across New Jersey ICE agents have swept up 46 alleged gang members and associates from MS-13, Sureno 13, Gran Familia Mexicana, Trinitario, Los Pitufos and the Bloods.
*** Donnell Young, a leader of the Rollin' 90s Crips in Nashville, TN, gets forty years:
Prosecutors said Young, who went by the street name of "Lil Peso," was known as the "enforcer" in the gang, imposing his own brand of justice on members who got out of line. He has admitted to beatings and tortures that lasted for hours and to killing a gang member suspected of talking to police about the group's illegal operations.
*** The FBI is targeting drug trafficking street gangs in Long Island, NY, and it has made arrests in what is reported as only the first wave.
