Federal prosecutors have announced that they will not seek the death penalty against the defendants who are charged for their alleged roles in the 2003 hit on Genovese capo Adolfo "Big Al" Bruno in Springfield, MA as reported by Stephanie Barry for The Republican.
Arthur Nigro, the reputed former acting boss in New York, and brothers Freddy and Ty Geas are scheduled for a March 8, 2011 trial in a Manhattan federal court. Frankie Roche, the admitted triggerman in the Bruno slaying, alleges that he was paid $10,000 by Freddy Geas for the job.
Anthony Arillotta, the reputed capo who allegedly succeeded Bruno, and reputed Genovese capo Felix Tranghese, also were accused of roles in the slaying but according to earlier reports are cooperating with the feds. Another charged defendant, convicted loan shark Emilio Fusco, fled to Italy where extradition proceedings are pending.
