A federal jury in Brooklyn, NY has found Bonanno crime family boss Vincent Basciano guilty of racketeering involving the 2004 murder of mob associate Randolph Pizzolo as reported by John Marzulli for the Daily News.
The penalty phase of the case against Vinny Gorgeous is next, and prosecutors will ask the jury to give the thumbs down on his life. Basciano already is serving a life sentence without parole in connection with the murder of Frank Santoro.
The last mob boss who got the death penalty was Louis "Lepke" Buchalter who headed the notorious hit squad Murder, Inc., and he sizzled in the electric chair at Sing Sing on March 4, 1944. In 1992 the feds asked for the death penalty against Bonanno soldier Thomas "Tommy Karate" Pitera following his conviction for seven murders but the jury took a pass.
