Italian authorities have seized several bars and restaurants in the Naples region, including one in the name of footballer Fabio Cannavaro, which allegedly were used by the Lo Russo clan from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia to launder money from its extortion and loan sharking rackets as reported by Adnkronos: "Cannavaro, who is not a target of the investigation, may have allowed his name to be used as the owner of a restaurant actually owned by a businessman with ties to a known Camorra crime figure involved in loan sharking." The businessman has been identified as Marco Iorio as reported by Wall Street Italia, and he may be in the United States as reported by AGI News.
Fourteen suspects have been arrested for their alleged roles in the scheme.
Meanwhile, Vittorio Piasani, a senior Naples law enforcement officer, is under investigation on suspicion of helping out the Lo Russo clan.
