Former Winter Hill gang boss Whitey Bulger travelled by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter from the Plymouth County Correctional Facility to Logan Airport in order to attend two hearings this afternoon at a Boston federal courthouse.
At the first hearing a judge ruled that federal prosecutors can drop the 1995 racketeering indictment involving a slew of the mobster's alleged criminal operations in order to focus on the 2000 racketeering indictment involving nineteen murder charges, and at the second hearing a magistrate appointed J.W. Carney Jr. to represent him at taxpayer expense as reported by The Boston Globe.
