Matteo Messina Denaro, the so-called "boss of bosses" from Cosa Nostra or the Sicilian Mafia, has been a wanted man since 1993, and his days on the run may be drawing to a close.
His last remaining stronghold is Campobello di Mazara, and today police arrested the town's mayor and ten others in a move which undermines the Mafia chieftan's support according to authorities as reported by AGI News: "investigators claim to have delivered a serious blow to the empire of one of the most powerful Cosa Nostra godfathers, and thus weakened his circle of protection and thus his chances of evading capture."
Earlier this year Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said that "the circle around him is tightening" as reported by Monsters and Critics.
Among other things the pyschopath is accused of murdering rival mob boss Vincenzo Milazzo and his pregnant girlfriend.
There literally will be dancing in the streets when Denaro is apprehended.

There will also be blood in the streets as Mafia clans scamble to fill the void. I can't wait to see what form the Sicilian Mafia takes once they catch Matteo Messina Denaro. The Anti-Mafia team better hope they don't become structured like the Camorra, with no top boss but instead a federation of clans. That's the Cosa Nostra's downfall, because when you cut the head off the rest of the body doesn't know what to do.
