The feds yesterday arrested twenty individuals, including several suspected Gambino mobsters, for their various alleged roles in taking sports bets through offshore websites and running card clubs in Stamford and Hamden as reported by Michael P. Mayko for Greenwich Time:
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Peter Jongbloed and Hal Chen identified five of the men -- Dean "Little Baldy" DePreta, 44; Douglas "Fat Doug" Corbin, 51; and Thomas "Little T" Uva, 30, all of Stamford; Uva's uncle, Richard, 43, of Trumbull; and Joseph "Pizza Joe" Borea, 55, of New Canaan -- arrested in the gambling probe as associates of the Gambino family.
Law enforcent says the Gambino family claims Fairfield County as its turf, and "has controlled gambling and other rackets in the southwest part of the state since at least the early 1980s" as reported by Edmund H. Mahony for The Hartford Courant.
