Yury Fedotov, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, paid tribute yesterday to Italian anti-Mafia judge Paolo Borsellino who was assassinated by Cosa Nostra or the Sicilian Mafia in a car bomb twenty years ago as reported by Euro News: "the allegation is that Borsellino was about to release details about a secret government deal with the mafia to end the violence – a pact which disgusted him."
The murder of Judge Borsellino occurred only two months after a bomb attack killed anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone and his wife.
Italy's House and Senate legislative bodies in Rome also marked the 20th anniversary of Borsellino's assassination as reported by ANSA: "Senate Speaker Renato Schifani praised Borsellino for the commitment and rigour he displayed in fighting the mafia and said that following his example and that of Falcone was 'the best way to remember the memory of them.'"
