The Charbonneau Commission which is investigating corruption allegations involving the Montreal Mafia and dirty officials in the
award of public contracts in the construction industry is breaking until mid-January as reported by Monique Muise for The Gazette: "the
inquiry cancelled 12 days of public hearings this month, opting to
continue working behind the scenes to catch up on administrative work,
review evidence and prepare for the next series of witnesses -- rumoured
to include reputed mob boss Vito Rizzuto and his [alleged] former right-hand man,
Raynald Desjardins."
