Genovese Rat Gets Four Years In Murder Plot

Genovese-soldier-turned-government-witness Felix Tranghese was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the 2003 murder of family capo Adolfo Bruno in Springfield, MA as reported by Stephanie Barry for The Republican:   "in its sentencing memo, federal prosecutors noted that Tranghese began cooperating 'almost immediately' after he was arrested," and "U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel commended Tranghese for his cooperation at the sentencing."  Tranghese will be credited for the time served since his 2010 arrest.

Tranghese was one of three Genovese mobsters who turned on the family, and their cooperation resulted in the 2011 conviction of one-time acting boss Artie Nigro.  The string of turncoats suggests the feds may have gotten the break it's long needed to make a major strike against the crime family beyond the Bruno slaying.

Let The Trial Begin!

An anonymous jury has been selected in the racketeering trial in Manhattan federal court against reputed Genovese soldier Emilio Fusco for his alleged role in whacking family capo Adolfo Bruno and mob associate Gary Westerman in Springfield, MA over concerns the pair were cooperating with the government in 2003 as reported by Stephanie Barry for The Republican:  "U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel had previously granted a prosecution request to seat an anonymous jury -- fairly routine in this city for organized crime cases in federal court."

Three co-defendants -- onetime Genovese acting boss Arthur Nigro and Greek brothers Freddy and Ty Geas -- were convicted last April in a separate trial for their roles in the Bruno slaying.  The government's evidence in that case rested largely on the testimony of flipped gangsters including Genovese capos Anthony "Bingy" Arillotta and Felix Tranghese.  Nigro and the brothers Geas now are serving life sentences following their convictions.

The feds also charged Fusco with trafficking drugs and extorting bar and other business owners.

Emilio Fusco Goes To Trial For Genovese Hits

Jury selection begins next Monday on April 16 in a Manhattan federal court in the racketeering trial against the freshly-extradited Emilio Fusco who is charged for his alleged role in the 2003 murders of Genovese capo Adolfo Bruno and mob associate Gary Westerman in Springfield, MA over concerns the pair were cooperating with the government as reported by Stephanie Barry for The Republican:

Heading to trial, federal prosecutors have filed motions to introduce a web of evidence against Fusco that details his [alleged] beginnings in the "Springfield crew" of New York's Genovese crime family.  "Fusco was 'made' into the Genovese Crime Family in approximately the late 1990s in Springfield. Albert Scibelli sponsored Fusco for membership and the ceremony was attended by Scibelli, Felix Tranghese, Anthony Delevo, a member of the Genovese Crime Family who replaced Albert Scibelli as capo and head of the Genovese operations in Springfield, and Anthony Torino, another Genovese soldier based in Springfield," one motion reads.

Emilio Fusco Trial Set For Mob Murders

A Manhattan federal judge has set an April 16, 2012 trial date for the freshly-extradited Emilio Fusco in the 2003 murders of Genovese capo Adolfo Bruno and mob associate Gary Westerman in Springfield, MA over concerns the pair were cooperating with the government as reported by Stephanie Barry for The Republican.

As Fusco fought the extradition proceedings in Italy he missed the racketeering trial at which his three co-defendants -- onetime Genovese acting boss Arthur Nigro and Greek brothers Freddy and Ty Geas -- were convicted last April.  The government's evidence in that case rested largely on the testimony of flipped gangsters including Genovese capos Anthony "Bingy" Arillotta and Felix Tranghese, and given their effectiveness on the stand one wonders whether Fusco will join them in the witness protection program rather than trying to beat the rap at trial.  Nigro and the brothers Geas now are serving life sentences following their convictions in the Bruno slaying, and surely Fusco can read the handwriting on the wall.

Fusco previously has been convicted for racketeering and loan sharking, and while he was out on bail pending sentencing for those charges he allegedly joined in the Bruno and Westerman murder plots.

Genovese Boss Artie Nigro Gets Life In Prison

Onetime Genovese acting boss Arthur Nigro and Greek brothers Freddy and Ty Geas were sentenced today to life in prison following their racketeering convictions last April involving, among other things, the 2003 slaying of New England capo Adolfo Bruno according to a press release from the FBI. 

The government's case rested largely on the testimony of flipped gangsters including Genovese capos Anthony "Bingy" Arillotta and Felix Tranghese.

Frankie Roche, the admitted triggerman in the Bruno slaying, also testified for the government.

Federal prosecutors also accuse convicted loan shark Emilio Fusco of a role in Bruno's murder but he was fighting extradition proceedings in Italy during the trial against his co-defendants.  However, now that Fusco is back in the United States, a March 5, 2012 date has been scheduled for his trial.
