A no-nonsense federal judge knew how to wipe the smirk off a crooked union official's face: she slapped him with the maximum sentence.
U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest sentenced John Fazio Jr. -- a former official with Local 348-s of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union in Brooklyn, NY -- to 11+ years in prison for his role in ripping off the union's benefit funds and shaking down businesses for labor peace as reported by Bruce Golding for the New York Post: "'The court notes you sat through the trial smirking and rolling your eyes,' she said. 'Your demeanor showed, I believe, contempt for the legal process.'"
Judge Forrest gave Fazio's dirty kin Anthony Fazio Sr. and Anthony Fazio Jr. 12 and 5 years, respectively, for their roles in the union corruption.
According to court papers the FBI uncovered suspected ties between the union and the mob including alleged meetings between John Fazio Jr. and reputed Genovese capo John Barbato as previously reported by Bruce Golding for the New York Post.
