Federal prosecutors last year indicted several reputed MS-13 gangbangers from Long Island on racketeering charges for their alleged roles in various crimes including the 2016 murder of fellow member 18-year-old Jose Pena-Hernandez whom the other boys suspected was gay as reported by Newsday.
Suspected MS-13 gangbangers at William Wirt Middle School in Riverdale, MD, an "overwhelmingly Hispanic school" in Prince George's County, "throw gang signs, sell drugs, draw gang graffiti and aggressively recruit students recently arrived from Central America, according to more than two dozen teachers, parents and students" as reported by The Washington Post.
Seventeen suspected MS-13 gang members have been indicted "on murder, drug and conspiracy charges for a range of alleged crimes on Long Island" as reported by the Daily News: "what began as a local drug investigation revealed a ruthless MS-13 operation as brutal as any across the country, where rivals were murdered, as were disloyal members who cooperated with law enforcement or tried to leave the gang." The investigation revealed that there are two cliques in Long Island -- dubbed "Hollywood" and "Sailors" -- which "reported directly to gang leaders in El Salvador, and sent them the proceeds of their nefarious activities" as reported by the New York Post.
