Are there any handwriting analysts out there who want to compare two signatures?
The first signature is a 1977 one by Jennie Tobin who ran gay bars in New York City -- primarily on the Upper West Side -- with her husband William Tobin for decades. (Once you left-click on the image you may need to maximize the window, right click and select "view image" in order to see the full document with her signature at the bottom.)
The second signature is a 1956 one by Jennie Grippo who apparently was a shareholder in Tap-A-Keg Inc. which operated a bar of the same name at 330 Columbus Avenue between 75th and 76th Streets into the 1970s or 1980s.
The "Jennie" for both signatures look strikingly similar to my amateur eye although there's a slight difference with the "J" in the name.
Jennie Tobin -- Tobin is her married name -- was born on August 15, 1917. According to the 1940 census there is a 23-year-old Jennie Grippo identified as married living in Mount Vernon, NY with an estimated birth year of 1917, and a 24-year-old Jennie Grippo identified as single living in New York, NY with an estimated birth year of 1916. With respect to Jennie Grippo in Mount Vernon she purportedly is the daughter -- daughter-in-law? -- of household head Rattealo Peliccio. With respect to Jennie Grippo in New York she purportedly is the daughter of household head Frank Grippo, and apparently also has a brother Frank. It's unknown to me whether either of these two Jennie Grippos may be Jennie Tobin -- perhaps it's neither -- and any information that anyone has on them would be greatly appreciated.
For example, is the Jennie Grippo from Mount Vernon her maiden or married name? What was her husband's name? Is either Jennie Grippo related in any way to the Orlando Grippo who once was an apparent front for Sam Konwiser and Johnny Biello in The Peppermint Lounge at 128 West 45th Street from about 1960 to 1965? Did either Jennie Grippo marry William Tobin? Is either Jennie Grippo the one identified in the above document as a shareholder in Tap-A-Keg Inc., and what is her relationship to the other two shareholders identified as Joseph and Frank Grippo? If neither Jennie Grippo is Jennie Tobin, what was Jennie Tobin's maiden name?
After William Tobin was whacked in 1978 before Jennie Tobin's eyes in their Queens home she then married cabaret owner Harry Endicott from The Grand Finale at 210 West 70th Street so she apparently didn't enjoy widowhood. And while I'm asking for help, is William Tobin related to Raymond Tobin who in 1964 was a 42-year-old tavern owner in Greenwood Lake, NY? Apparently Jennie and William Tobin at one point owned a hotel in Greenwood Lake in addition to their multiple bars and buildings in New York City.
