Pop singer Jimmy Roselli was famous for bucking mob control which not only hindered his career but once resulted in an inglorious beatdown at jazz joint The Hickory House on West 52nd Street according to a September 1968 FBI memo:
On 9/11/68, informant advised that BUCKY [ANTONIO] FERRO at one time managed JIMMY ROSELLI. He said they later had a falling out and ROSELLI is no longer managed by FERRO. Informant said ROSELLI was beaten up while in the Hickory House. Informant said that at the time ROSELLI was involved in the fight, JOHN POPKINS had owned the Hickory House. Informant said POPKINS was in his 70's.
The informant further alleged that Popkins was connected to super agent Joe Glazer who had multiple mob ties:
Informant said POPKINS was involved with a JOE GLAZER of Associated Booking located on Park Avenue, NYC. He said GLAZER handles LOUIE "SATCHMO" ARMSTRONG. Informant advised that GLAZER was also connected with JIMMY "BLUE EYES" ALO, FRANKIE CARBO and MATTY BROWN (MATTHEW IANIELLO), who owns Matty's Town Crest on West 49th Street.
